Website visibility checklist

A practical checklist for making your website easier to find, understand, and trust.

Use these checks to review the fundamentals that matter across conventional search, AI discoverability, customer trust, and conversion. You can work through the list yourself or use the Analyzer to identify where the biggest gaps appear.

Before you start

Do not optimize for a score. Improve the website itself.

A checklist is useful because it forces you to look at observable conditions. The goal is not to chase a perfect number or add technical markup for its own sake. The goal is a site that is accessible, clear, credible, and useful.

Check important pages, not only the homepage
Service, location, booking, product, and contact pages often contain problems a homepage-only review misses.
Look for consistency
Search and AI systems benefit when the same business facts are reinforced instead of contradicted across the site.
Prioritize meaningful problems
A handful of high-impact issues usually deserve attention before dozens of cosmetic warnings.
01 · Search foundation

Search foundation

Make sure important pages can be discovered, interpreted, and indexed without conflicting technical signals.

Important public pages return a successful HTTP response.

robots.txt does not unintentionally block pages that should be visible.

An XML sitemap exists and reflects the pages you actually want discovered.

Important pages use clear, distinct titles and primary headings.

Canonical and indexability signals point to the intended public pages.

Internal links make important services, locations, and decision pages easy to reach.

02 · AI discoverability

AI discoverability

Help AI systems understand the business, its services, expertise, locations, and the facts that make it relevant.

The business name and core offering are stated clearly instead of implied through vague marketing copy.

Important services have enough context to explain what they are, who they help, and where they are available.

Business, service, and location information stays consistent across the website.

Structured data reinforces real information on the page where appropriate.

Key questions customers ask are answered directly in useful page content.

Important claims are supported with specific details rather than unsupported superlatives.

03 · Trust

Trust

Give customers and automated systems enough evidence to verify who operates the site and why the business is credible.

Contact information is easy to find and consistent.

The website clearly identifies the business or professional behind it.

Relevant reviews, credentials, experience, policies, or other trust evidence are visible where useful.

Important claims are specific and believable.

The website uses HTTPS and does not present obvious broken or abandoned-site signals.

Customers can understand how to reach the business if something goes wrong.

04 · Conversion

Conversion

Visibility has limited business value if an interested visitor cannot understand the next step.

High-intent pages have one obvious primary action.

Contact, booking, quote, or purchase paths work cleanly on mobile.

Calls to action use specific language that explains what happens next.

Forms ask only for information needed at that stage.

Trust evidence appears close to important decision points where relevant.

The visitor can quickly understand who the service is for and why they should continue.

How to use the checklist

Start with evidence, then decide what deserves work.

Do I need to pass every item?

No. Website needs vary by business and page type. Use the list to identify gaps, then prioritize issues based on importance, prevalence, and the pages they affect.

Will completing this checklist guarantee better Google rankings?

No. Rankings depend on many factors outside a website owner's direct control. These checks improve the quality of signals the site can control; they do not guarantee a specific search position.

Will this guarantee that an AI assistant cites my business?

No. AI systems choose answers and sources using systems outside the website's control. Clear, consistent, trustworthy information improves the inputs available to those systems but cannot guarantee a citation.

How is this different from the Website Visibility Score?

The checklist is a self-review. The Analyzer is designed to inspect website evidence systematically, calculate an evidence-based score, and prioritize confirmed findings across the four visibility dimensions.
